Trinity:JD-Pacing, and Character Dev

Post by rydi »

everyone likes a little different pacing in their games. some people like a constant beating from the plot crowbar, with the scenery pulling you along in the right direction. some people like piddling around a single setting piece for hours, and some people just want to talk.

i would like to know what kind of pacing everyone likes, so that i can modify accordingly. my personal tastes tend toward the talking and the plot, with minimal setting exploration, though with this game and others lately i've been trying to bring the setting itsefl more into play.

anyway, beyond that, i'd like to know what you want for your characters, and what you'd like to see from the story. these were pre-genned chars, but they are completely yours now, and i'd like to know what you would like to help you further develop them (other than the 500xp that has already been requested by and unscrupulous player...)

finally, how are people liking it so far? and what were high points, and things you liked about each of the sessions?

(I personally could make do with only 100xp, but whatever) I personally like there to be an overarching (scenery pulls you along) plot availible, but for it to be spaced out over a long period of time. This seems to be the general feel here, we have the creepy evil, and we will likely be exploring it, but we don't have: Day 1 bad guy shows up and kicks your ass, Day 2: Heal, Day 3: Find holy hand grenade, Day 4: Kill.

With no major plots I think the game would fizzle. That being said, I personally could game forever on just character interaction, it would be like Seinfeld, but with Psi powers. I don't think everyone would enjoy it, but I could see a 30% character interaction, 30% Personal plot (like what we did at isra), and 40% major plot working okay.

Mieke is actually pretty good as is, I plan to try and get her trained up a bit in unarmed combat (By way of asking Pei to kick her ass until she is better) and to work on increasing her modes. (I would like to put current xp toward mentatis 2, algesis 1, and (if i can up it 2 dots at once) algesis 2) beyond that she will grow and change as terrible things happen to her and the party.

I personally am enjoying the game. I think there is a bit of lag as only 1 or two people seem to talk at any given time. If it isn't being done, I think opening private chats with gm included gives players a separate space for personal interaction. I do so whenever just one person and myself are interecting.

Ah missed one, My favorite part so far has to be Josh's character flaking out over the clairvoyants. I think it was well done, way to go Josh. Other high points included, Mieke being kidnapped and the fight in the alley (though my char wasn't there for it.)

I'm in favor of a plot pulling us along pretty consistently. When we have 'downtime' type things, stuff like the ISRA interlude would be favorable. It lets us see how a given group of people do things and contrast it against our characters and their backgrounds. Also, its just neat to go, "Oh yeah, I know Ortha Hezrog" (or whatever his last name is).

I enjoyed the talk I had with the Old Man, and basically any scene in which I've gotten to be a total ass to people with no major repercussions.

As far as where to go from here, I've got a lot of interest in seeing Greg develop his Psi powers, as thats obviously a fairly central focus. Unfortunately, some of that will require training, and getting that training is sort of meh. He's fairly well equipped to do his job as far as mundane skills and attributes go, so there's not a large need to invest in those areas, in my mind.

I like the interactions so far. I am a bit disappointed that some people aren't being quiet as responsive as others. A game like this is made by what people type on the screen. SO I am all for developing this part of the game more.

I also enjoy the plot hooks, and the side quests. I think dealing with a kidnapping will be fun, and I look forward to confronting that energy monster guy (if my suspicions are correct that character isn't everything he is cut out to be). So plot driven story is also fine by me.

I guess really I am just looking for a decent balance of things: character development, interactions, and plot devices.

I am not sure where I want to develop Pei from here. i am pretty happy with his stats. I believe his combat stuff is pretty maxed out so it cant be developed. I guess just up the things he is using. Some of his intrusion, his detective skills, and maybe buy some street cred. as a background or something. If you have any ideas feel free to comment because I honestly don't care. With systems I don't know very well I just kind of go a long for the ride, and as my character fills a niche and does it well I don't feel much need to give him many new things.

Well, there are these lovely tanks...think of them as day spas, one quick dip and they not only give you super powers but whisk away that troublesome soul everyone is bogged down by.
