General back story for Lilah the Lasombra:

Lilah was one of the best courtesans in Venice a few centuries back. She had the favor of a very high level patron and enjoyed his wealth thoroughly. When the man, a rather unhealthy duke, died after a few months in her company it seemed to everyone, Lilah included, that his health had failed. When it happened to her second, third, and finally fourth patrons within a few months words like ‘black-widow’ and ‘witch’ were beginning to be bandied about. Within a year Lilah had gone from the most sought after courtesan in Venice to the most avoided. She had saved ample funds to leave the city and start new elsewhere, and was about to do so, when a missive reached her. A visiting noble in residence outside of Venice was requesting her time. A year ago she would have scoffed, but now… now she had little left to lose.

The gentleman was kind, if a bit creepy, and the wine he poured was the best. Within a few hours in his company, Lilah had been drunk, enamored, and embraced. The Lasombra in question had seen her at a party nearly a year ago and had had to have her. Deciding the game wouldn’t be worth playing if he just embraced her and ran, he killed off her patrons, turned public opinion against her, and left her with no other options. It was a perfect romance in his eyes.

To Lilah, who was enthralled with her new unlife, her new patron was her dark hero. The two traveled together for nearly a century, their ‘love’ cooled, and the two went their separate ways, the patron, to a villa near the alps and Lilah to the new world. The two still keep in touch via letters and there seems to be trust and kinship between them.

Lilah, in modern times, runs a rather successful clothing design company. Why she relocated it from New York to Oklahoma is anyone’s guess, but she claims it is the lower rent costs. Lilah has her hand in several other businesses, art, banking, and a few high end restaurants. She is not an easy person to meet and even less so to get along with. Her high courtesan air mixing with the haughtiness of the successful can make her seem condescending and overbearing, both of which are correct assumptions. Despite those personality flaws, Lilah has friends, or rather acquaintances in the city, she is generous with those she likes and willing to make time for those she considers worth the effort to do so.

“Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones.”
