Panoptic Task Force Americas 4

Post by Avilister »

***BEGIN TRANSMISSION***
Statement of Purpose: Control is seeking recruits for Panoptic Task Force Americas 4 (henceforth PTFA4) to investigate the event that occurred in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area on or around July 7, 2028 11 xx.

Requirements: Successful applicants will meet or exceed the following qualifications according to Conventional Standardized Aptitude Tests (CSAT): Attributes: 8/6/4, Abilities 18/13/8, 10 ranks in spheres of influence, Enlightenment 4, Willpower 6, Backgrounds 10, Freebies 20

Other Information: Members of PTFA4 will have directly participated in no less than 5 successful combat engagements (individually or with one another; applicants are encouraged to apply in groups). Control seeks to assemble a multi-Conventional Task Force with a diverse array of specializations including, but not limited to: advanced psychological techniques, chaos theory, reality deviants, energy weapons, biology, and extradimensional entities (xenobiological or otherwise). Successful applicants are likely to be chosen from those with experience as a part of multi-Convention amalgams or actual membership in up to two Methodologies or Conventions, and who show strong proficiency in a particular area of Enlightened Science. Members of PTFA4 will be strongly team oriented and have few or no problems working with others to achieve results that may have been impossible for individuals.

Mission success is considered Priority 1 for all Conventions. Mission success may result in long term assignment to PTFA4 for surviving agents.

Upon selection, recruits will report to Agent S of the New World Order's Operations Division in USA, Texas, Dallas to receive the details of their assignment and complete their preparations.

***END TRANSMISSION***

Less IC: We talked after Gideon's game about what the cleanup of the mess that was made might look like. I think it'd be exceptionally interesting to actually play through that cleanup from the Technocratic point of view. To that end, this game is intended to be fairly short-ish, probably no more than 2 or 3 sessions (tops, maybe less, depending on what happens), and performed by experienced technocrat characters. The 'crats have realized that this is serious business, and so they're not sending in rookies, they're sending in tried and true problem solvers and cleaners to be their first eyes and ears (and other) on the ground. The team will go in, do what they can, and then report back with recommendations or success. The system, as one might guess, is that of Mage: The Ascension, Revised, with plenty of material borrowed from not-so-revised for Technocrats, including especially the Guide to the Technocracy and various Convention books. (See me if you need books.)

Character creation is as listed above. Enlightenment (aka Arete) should not go above 5, and no more than 1 Sphere may be rated at 5. Given the nature of the problem, the team will probably need at least one person that has Mind 3-4 (to "flashy-thingie" bystanders), someone that specializes in Dimensional Science (aka the Sphere of Spirit), and probably specialists in Matter, Life, and/or Entropy (because of all those damn zombies); no one person will be expected to have all of these, that's why Control is looking for cross-Conventional agents. Because I know how incredibly tempting it can be to take Dual Traditions and Sphere Natural, I am simply going to provide both at no cost (dual traditions does slightly less for technocrats anyway in terms of foci, and the xp benefit of both is just too much to pass up in most cases).

The Panopticon is a cross-Convention security Methodology formed in response to the Rogue Council in the Mage meta-plot. Most of its members are drawn from Iteration X's BioMechanics, NWO's Operatives, the Progenitor's Damage Control, and the Void Engineer Border Corps Division (though not exclusively, by any means). In this case, Control wants a multidisciplinary team that can handle a wide range of needs (read spheres and abilities) so that they're able to address a very wide range of potential problems (since the situation on the ground is mostly unknown). Membership in the Panopticon functionally provides the 3-pt merit Panopticon Agent, which allows members to access some backgrounds possessed by their teammates, even if they're normally restricted by Convention. It also provides two dots in the background Panopticon Rank which allows extremely limited access to the Resources, Backup, Secret Weapons, and Spies backgrounds controlled by the Panopticon as a whole.

Sounds like fun. I'll have to get some of the books from you before I decide on what I would like to play.

Mage: The Ascension, Revised (or 3rd ed, or whatever you want to call it). Go ahead and replace Dodge with Empathy and call it good. We'll use the V20 defensive rules, but otherwise pretty much just go Mage all the way.

I think I need this. I'm thinking void engineer pan-dim corps to handle the dimensional anomaly (which was freaking creepy btw)

If you're looking to play this on Saturday, please post a bit about the character you're putting together, particularly Convention(s), Methodology(ies), and Spheres.

DeShawn "Fixer" Brown
NWO MIB/Q Division
MATTER/Prime/Forces/dimensional science
MENTAL/Physical/social
TALENTS/Skills/knowledges

DeShawn joined the military after a hard childhood, used military training and money to go to school for engineering, and was a brilliant success story right up until his untimely "death" in a brutal mugging where he saved the life of 2 young women.

After his awakening, in which he killed an angry mutant werewolf, DeShawn worked with NWO as a man-in-black for several years before he felt the calling to pursue academics once more and joined the Q Division. The Fixer, as DeShawn came to be known, went on to blend his brilliance with his field acumen to become one of an elite few called upon to address highly unstable and dangerous situations.

In his spare time, he attempts to create a unified dimensional field theory of matter, though his studies are only in their infancy at the start of the chronicle.

Harper spent several years post-awakening on Deep Universe exploration missions. She has stared into the face of the unknown, took notes, and got the t-shirt. The desire to know, and the drive to see, motivate her. Recent trouble in Deep Universe has benched some of the exploration, and Harper is enjoying a chance for some downtime.

Harper Reese is adept at thinking outside the box, and dealing with extremely volatile situations. It was her fast thinking that allowed team to return alive from its recent mission, when their ship suffered a catastrophic malfunction. Though well learned and seasoned, Harper's occasional shirking of protocol and desire to push the envelope have prevented her from leading any major explorations, which she doesn't particularly mind. Though her recent mission has likely put her under review for possible promotion, or demotion depending on upcoming missions.

Name: Richard Crichton
Methodologies: NWO MIB/Void Engineer NSC
Mind/Time/Dimensional Science/TBD
Physical/Mental/Social
Talents/Knowledges/Skills

Richard Crichton met his mentor Dr. Scott while he was studying at the Air Force Academy. Dr. Scott saw potential in Richard and encouraged him to join the void engineers as an Enforcer. He showed a lot of potential with his understanding of how time and space worked.

One of his first assignments was aboard a deep universe vessel that disappeared under mysterious circumstances that only a small handful of the crew survived. All the survivors showed signs of having their memories manipulated, but despite the ETCA and NWO's best attempts, the memories could not be brought back.

Following these events Richard was grounded and transferred to the NSC, where he worked closely with the NWO. Following a couple years of undercover work with the NWO to root out a vampire necromantic cult (Giovanni) the NWO formally brought Richard on in a inter-convention agency and trained him in the use of psychological procedures and methods (mind).

To clarify: You get one free convention dot - pick one from one of your methodologies. I guess you end up with 11 dots total before freebies. You know. Or not. Whatever.

Name: Agent C (Chris Carpenter)
Methodologies: Iteration X BioMechanics/NWO Operative
Matter/Life/Forces/Mind
Mental/Physical/Social
Talents/Knowledges/Skills (I may have switched Talents and Knowledges)

Agent C remembers next to nothing from his childhood, adolescence, or early adulthood. His first memories are of "Coming Online" in the It X lab, in fact his first remembered experiences weren't even in "his" body (there is so little left of the original organic material, and so much of his body is patented to Iteration X that he isn't really sure that he can claim ownership), but in a server. His mind came online and then was uploaded into his cybernetically enhanced body. He came online knowing what he was instructed that he needed to know to be a fully operational operative for the NWO, and was immediately put into service.

During his first couple months of operation he proved to be a valuable asset for both of the Conventions that he was a member. His capabilities with computer warfare/espionage and physical combat earned him more than a few commendations within the NWO, and his unique physical makeup proved less prone to rejecting further Iteration X implants. One thing that they hadn't planned on however was the dynamic Genius that woke within him and encouraged him to take control of his own life and evolution. He began running missions the way that he saw most appropriate, whether or not they followed protocol. No one could argue with his results, but they have decided since his first deviation to keep a closer eye on him lest he become a rogue agent. He knows that they do regular downloads of his hard drive, but they don't know that he modifies his memories to only allow them to see what he wishes them to.

I am terribly sorry that I both showed up to game late and that I had to leave early. If this runs again, I will make every effort to prevent that from happening again. I had a great time while I was there. Thanks for running this Steven.

So this week ended up being mostly a wash because of all-group lack of focus. Goof for people away!

If you're reading this, send me a PM or a skype message or something with the snippets of weird shit you were saying at the end of the first session.
