Mechanics

Post by Avilister »

Starting from Don's Exaltation, children across the world began to Exalt as Dragon-Blooded. There is a fairly limited number of them, roughly 10,000 spread all over the world, evenly distributed between all five aspects. If they do not breed, the blood of the dragons will die once again. They were all born in the Year of the Dragon – February 5, 2000 – Janurary 23, 2001 and no others have been born since then. Total number of Exalts is something like 100 each of Solars and Lunars, around 10 Sidereals, about 10000 children who are, or eventually will Exalt as Dragon-blooded. Abyssals and Infernals are specifically left out for the moment and up to other players to decide. It is my opinion that, at this early stage, they're not necessary and, if they are Exalting, are better off left as shadowy figures rather than the extremely public individuals other Exalts are. Sidereals operate as Dreams of the First Age Sidereals, as the Mask does not exist anymore, and thus cannot be broken. Similarly, Lunars operate as their First Age versions do, displaying the full range of five castes and not requiring moonsilver tattoos in order to retain their caste. All of the Dragon-blooded children posses Legendary Breeding which consumes 3 of their background dots – they all also currently posses the Child flaw. All Dragon-blooded are created as Outcastes, as the Realm does not exist to provide Dynastic support for them. Artifacts and hearthstones are, at this point, entirely absent from the setting, but are certainly good fodder for story arcs. It is my hope that such items are extremely difficult to come by and that, by and large, Exalts will simply create their own rather than dig up ancient wonders. Linguistics dots function as they do in Aberrant, that is, pick up language groups per dot, rather than some number of individual languages (Chinese languages, Germanic languages, and Romance languages are good examples of valid choices).

Note also that because only around 100 Solars and 100 Lunars have currently Exalted, there are only about 16 or 17 bonded pairs in existence, and most of those are probably unaware of their connection. On a similar note, since Exaltations roughly follow standard population distributions, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_co ... population is useful for determining the rough Exaltated population of a given nation or area – particularly for Dragon-blooded (whose Aspects tend to skew to appropriately resonant locales). The US thus has roughly 9-10 Solar and Lunar Exalts, while China and India are likely to boast considerably more. Since Celestial Exaltations are also drawn to those being actively heroic, China and India tend to have slightly less than their populations otherwise suggest – regions like southern Africa and the Middle East, by contrast, are receiving slightly more than their populations suggest, since the active conflicts there afford residents more opportunities for active heroism.

Don was created with the standard character creation process with an additional 35xp. This is standard for character creation of PCs in this setting (NPCs should use standard rules). As far as other skills go computers are covered by Lore; Guns are covered by Archery; Ride becomes Drive and covers cars, trucks, and motorcycles (as well as horses and other moutns), larger vehicles intended for transport of goods or many individuals covered by Sail which is renamed Pilot

Everything in the initial post is accurate, with a few exceptions:

1) Exalted are not so public as alluded to in the above post or in the Eclipse post. The first few weeks were full of sightings, and a growing tide of public interest, but firmly entrenched powers in control of the media in the World of Darkness were able to contain the breach of the "masquerade," "veil," or whatever other term you prefer for the organized program of disinformation and denial regarding supernatural occurrences. That veil is crumbling under the onslaught of a multitude of high-profile events, not the least of which is the emergence of the exalted, but for the moment it still holds thanks to the technocracy, elder kindred, and the efforts of several of the exalted themselves. It turns out that not all of the "new gods" want that kind of worldwide attention.

Even with these efforts, however, there is only so much that can be done to hide the anima banners and mythic exploits of the exalted. Though they are not recognized by the wider populace, local communities touched by an exalt are well aware that SOMETHING is out there, and that it isn't going to be explained away by the technocratic paradigm.

2) Alternate exalts of the more "villainous" types are alive, well, and causing problems. I suggest, as this is in the DoL continuity, that you make an at least semi-virtuous heroic character. That said, Infernals and Abyssals can be good guys too, if played right. You are welcome to them. You might also consider the potential for playing a dragonblooded child, as this is going to be more about storytelling and less about raw power.

The following are notes recovered from the wiki database:

Don was created with the standard character creation process with an additional 35xp. This is standard for character creation of PCs in this setting (NPCs should use standard rules).

Sidereals operate as Dreams of the First Age Sidereals as the Mask does not exist anymore and thus cannot be broken.

Lunars operate as their First Age versions do displaying the full range of five castes and not requiring moonsilver tattoos in order to retain their caste. AMMENDMENT: They only have the 3 'normal' castes, but still do not need moonsilver tattoos in order to fix their castes. So much time spent in stasis has locked castes down once an individual exalts.

All of the Dragon-blooded children posses Legendary Breeding which consumes 3 of their background dots they all also currently posses the Child flaw (in 2012, this goes away as of ~2014-5ish). Dragon blooded in a government training or control program can be created with Lookshy creation rules. Dragon blooded outside of government control are cerated with outcaste rules.

The 2.5 rules errata are in effect (which increase costs on perfect defenses, change some anima banners, and gives all combos for free, among other things).

==Backgrounds==
Artifacts and hearthstones are at this point entirely absent from the setting but are certainly good fodder for story arcs. It is my hope that such items are extremely difficult to come by and that by and large, Exalts will simply create their own rather than dig up ancient wonders. Exalts are exceedingly likely to have at least a little Backing from their government and some degree of Influence. Many of the earlier Exalts also possess a Cult (no more than 1 dot).

==Skills==
* Linguistics dots function as they do in Aberrant, that is, pick up language groups per dot rather than some number of individual languages (Chinese languages Germanic languages and Romance languages are good examples of valid choices).

* Skills are handled as per the Exalted Modern shard in Shards of the Exalted Dream

==Populations==
