Carnality Ball - Saturday, May 8th

Post by Jennifer »

Several people have expressed interest in going to the Carnality Ball. Who is/might be going?

http://www.carnalityball.com
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=108936229136457

Date: Saturday, May 8th
Time: 7 or 8 pm to 1 am - the posters and facebook event say 8, but their actual website, ticket-ordering page and several other places say 7
Cost: $15 in advance/$20 at the door

The theme this year is Pandora's Box; the idea is Greek Deities, Sexy Underworld and Mythological Stuff. Thus, Paul's charismatic fiendish 3-headed unicorn would fit right in...

This might also interest people: "There will be a photo competition for photos taken during the event with the winners announced at a later date. Anyone taking photos is asked to register for a press pass as well to give your contact information."

I'm willing to help out anyone who would like to dress up for this but does not have access to costuming. Sexy greek-ish/fantasy wear is pretty easy/cheap to put together and it would be fun if we had a good-sized group of costumed/dressed-up folk. I've also got some time and resources to put into making things right now. :)

Also, it'd be good for me if the people going got a timeline or general idea of the evening firmed up at least a few days beforehand so I can figure out some stuff. Would people be interested in doing dinner before the event? If so, in costume or out?

I'm also willing to drive if people are willing to put up with my car.

I have never heard of this before. Do I live in a cave? Also, is this something I have the authority to pass on to people who I know that might be interested in going?

This is that thing we were talking about that was gonna conflict with Cheyne's game. Haley mentioned it on Friday and I was interested, but not 100% sure I wanted to go . . . then today one of my sisters walked in the door with a pair of silver 8 inch high heels that fit me perfectly.

Must....go....out....at....6'5".... :D

I've never been to one of these before. I'm hoping it'll be a good time. As far as I'm concerned, the more the merrier!

Haley is going I think (I speak for her since she is never on), I am not sure about me. The game is cancelled on the 8th and will be moved to the 15th? instead, making room for others to go.

Im going to stab the world. I really want to go, but wont know whether I will have the evening off until the first of that week. In addition to having to wait until the last minute to find out whether I will have the evening free or not, there is a very good chance I just wont get it off. Apparently that is a busy weekend, and a dozen other people want the night off for various events.

If I do get to go I am probably going to wear a mask w/ dress clothes, and a matching tie. I am having a bit of trouble finding mask making stuff though. I shopped around today, but couldn't find anything promising. I will keep trying though. Any ideas would be appreciated.

What kind of mask are you looking to wear? Chances are I can help at least a little if I have an idea of what you want.

Of course, you could always go to Target . . .

Yes, thats it exactly...

Seriously though, I need a mask to match a neck tie. I think it would look neat if I wore all black dress clothes, with the only color being the tie and mask. I think I want to the theme the mask devilish/underworld... seems fitting for the ball's theme. It might have horns and stuff. I was thinking maroon as the major color, with either gold or silver as the highlight. As far as size, I am open, but I think I would refer something that covers the eyes only, with horns wrapping over my head. Think masquerade.

Very David Bowie color-scheme/flavor.

I will think/poke around with this in mind and get back to you. I'm assuming you don't want to spend a lot on this, yes? If you're trying to match the mask to a tie, it might work well to cover a plastic mask base with a little fabric to get the color/texture as close as possible. The plastic would also give structural support for any horns added to the mask.

A leather mask would take a while and be more expensive, but wouldn't be impossible to make. They're fairly pricey to buy, though.

You could even do face paint in a masquerade mask style . . .

I also have a decent pair of horns you could borrow if you wanted. Here's a closer picture, but it's a bit blurry. They can be adjusted to sit differently if you'd prefer (closer together, further apart, etc).

I've acquired some leather and will be playing around with it next week; I'll probably make several different masks which anyone who's interested will be free to use. I've been meaning to try this out for a while now :)

I <3 <3 <3 double-sided hemming tape! The sewing machine was being a monster D:<

Anyways, everyone ready? For anyone who wants to primp/travel en masse, we're getting ready at Haley/Cheyne's, as per the usual.

There will be multiple costume bits available for anyone who wants to dress up and doesn't have access to them.
