Jobs: The Working

Post by durden »

The Abbey exists as a safe haven for all children of Caine looking to settle into a peaceful and secluded existence of prayer and reflection. But there's no free lunch here. Malachi sees all those under his roof as part of a whole community, each responsible for maintaining this haven. Career paths exist as follows, with the possible addition of duties for those that don't fit the mold:

Priestly Duties - This is the path of the devote Cainite on the Road of Heaven. The order follows Franscican doctrine as laid out by the patron saint. You wake, pray, tend to church services, pray, eat, pray more. this is for those really looking to increase their path ratings.

Glass-making - Michael the Glazier keeps the place looking fabulous. Those stained-glass windows, unlike you, don't last forever. This will be a Crafts realted skill that offers one interesting options throughout the ages.

Herbalism - Renardo is getting old and needs an apprentice. He is very knowledgeable in herb lore and seeks to pass on his learnings to a capable other. Healing, poisoning, creating inks and dyes, whatever. The 14th century equivalent of the doctor.

Scholarship - The path to librarian, if you live a few centuries or so. Copying, deciphering, and translating of texts, as well as the production of new works of scholarship would fal lunder your duties. this path can take you around the peninsula, allow you access to the coveted library, or just help the nights pass. Several skills, namely Knowledges, fit under this group.

Illumination - For the artists and devote. You are responsible for the copying of texts and the illumination of the marginalia of the manuscripts. If you don't know what this is, look it up. This is your chance to leave your mark on history.

Animal Handling - The Abbey keeps pigs, chickens, and horses. You will be in charge of the animals' care and butchering when needed. Also, blood-keeping would fit here, as The Abbey keeps a large supply of surplus blood. Perhaps if you prove your worth, they'll tell you how they keep it so fresh. You'll be working for the cellerar and his assistant. You could have worse mentors...

Hearth Wisdom - The catch-all path for doing odd jobs and caring for the basic needs of everyone.

If you think of your own job, post it here. I guess you could fish, but there aren't any nighttime fisherman down in the town. the mentors for the above jobs offer training, per the rules under the secondary skill. Free eeps! Woot.

I think that mario would feel most comfortable with the animal husbandry, at least at first, though he would eventually be drawn to the glass blowing. perhaps after enough yearning, fascinated looks, the glass blower will get the hint and invite him to try?

I somehow managed to leave out blacksmithing and seneschal.

I can see Mario working with the animals. The great Ventrue working with pigs. Your sire will be so proud.

Feel free to pursue more than one. Engage the NPCs in schemes and conversations. Things will begin happening soon.
